Biography

Kevin is a highly skilled filmmaker, and an award winning director, writer and editor of documentaries. He also has a wide range of technical and graphic design skills. In 2017 he was awarded 'Best New Zealand Emerging Filmmaker' at the prestigious DocEdge 2017 festival for his debut feature documentary SET IN STONE, which also received a Special Mention award for Best Feature at the same film festival. He has written, directed, shot, and edited films in New Zealand, the UK, and the Pacific. Kevin specialises in telling story through cinematic documentary with multiple festival selections for short and feature films. He is also capable of engaging smaller scale web audiences to bring important stories to the wider public, this includes an online series of films produced with the Sarjeant Gallery Te Whare o Rehua, Whanganui, primarily to document stories of their multi-million dollar redevelopment project. When not actively filming, Kevin is also a skilled photographer, and location scout with experience of location management in the Whanganui region. Both of these skills helped support the foundation of Film Whanganui in 2019, for which his production company, Double Farley, also designed and built the database and website. Kevin has a Diploma in Computing, attended film school in Melbourne, is an alumni of the inaugural Share The Knowledge Location Management course in 2021. His first career was creating scientific multispectral videography for the UK Military, followed by IT support and management roles, before emigrating to New Zealand in 2007 and finding inspiration in Wellington to return to factual filmmaking, albeit this time in just the visual ranges of the spectrum. Kevin is Creative Director for film production and education resource development company Double Farley Ltd since July 2015.
